Can I Be Your Favorite Color?

I watched Where The Wild Things Are, and maybe it’s just been a while since I read the book, but I don’t remember it being like that at all.

Anyway, one part that stuck in my mind was when Judith and Max have an argument, and she tells him,

If we’re upset, your job is not to get upset back at us. Our job is to be upset. If I get mad and want to eat you, then you’re supposed to say, “Oh, OK. You can eat me. I love you. Whatever makes you happy.”

Which, of course, brings up the question of whether direct democracy is the best solution to every policy problem. In principle, I would say it is. But good lord have we screwed up California with referendums. It really comes down to how well-informed voters are and how much foresight they possess.

But eating kings… that part I can definitely get behind. Sure beats a recall election.
